Fine Art Quilting
I am a maker because it is fun and it soothes my soul. I love everything about fabric and always have. I think I was hooked in my sixth grade Home Economics class when I made a “beautiful” green and white gingham apron that even included my initials added to the pocket using green ric-rac!
Through the years I have been fortunate to study under and work with many very fine quilt makers and artists. My own work has been influenced by them and by everything around me---nature, incredible textiles, the traveling I have done, and of course by living in this beautiful corner of the world. I have watched quilting move from the category of “only women’s work” to finding its rightful place in the art world. Yeah for making quilts!
Along with Wendy Bowen, I founded the Shady Lady Quilting Group here in Haywood County. I am a member of Southern Highland Craft Guild, and an have been an instructor at the John C. Campbell Folk School for 18 years. My work has been exhibited nationally and internationally and can be seen at the Folk Art Center on the Blue Ridge Parkway.
My studio is in my home, which is a lovely Frank Lloyd Wright inspired home, designed by my husband Bill who also is an artist. Hope you will stop by for a visit!
